1. What is COR?
The Certificate of Recognition (COR) is an occupational health and safety certification program for all Yukon employers.
Northern Safety Network Yukon (NSNY) administers COR. Contact NSNY for information regarding the program, its benefits, and the certification process.

2. What types of certificates can be provided by contractors?
COR - Certificate of Recognition: This is available to Yukon employers, from owner/operator to large corporations.
SECOR - Small Employer Certificate of Recognition: This is available to Yukon employers that have less than 10 employees during their peak times.
TLC - Temporary Letter of Certification. This is available to employers that are in the advanced stages of becoming certified.
Another option is available to contractors outside of Yukon that are certified under a program recognized by NSNY from another jurisdiction.
COREL - Certification of Equivalency Letter. This letter is issued by Northern Safety Network Yukon to contractors that have 1- a similar certificate from another jurisdiction and 2-that request NSNY to evaluate if their program is equivalent to Yukon's COR program.
3. Who may be affected by the new COR requirement?
Contractors interested in bidding on Yukon government tenders that require construction activities and the COR requirement.
4. When is the COR requirement going to be implemented?
Phase I
Began on January 1, 2009
Applies to contracts for construction valued at $500,000 or more
Phase II
Begins on January 1, 2011
Applies to contracts for construction valued at $100,000 or more
Phase III
Begins on January 1, 2012
Applies to contracts for construction of any value
5. How will a contractor know if a contract is subject to the COR requirement?
If a contract is subject to this requirement, it will be noted on the tender documents.
A COR certificate must be provided with all BID documentation [see the answer to question #2 to familiarize yourself with the 4 available options].
The certification must be maintained throughout the life of the contract.

6. Which contracts will require COR?
COR applies to contracts for construction activities. The type of work (VIEW EXAMPLES), rather than the type of contract, and the dollar value of the contract are the factors that determine whether the contract is subject to the COR requirement.

8. Why has COR been chosen instead of another safety program?
In 2005, the Yukon Construction Safety Association conducted a Yukon-wide consultation tour. The COR program was chosen among other proposed programs, and it is the only implementation-to-audit safety program active and fully available to contractors in Yukon.
