Aerodromes

An aerodrome is an area of land used or designated in part for the arrival, departure, movement or servicing of aircraft. Our aviation system provides a safety net for aircraft when weather conditions deteriorate.

Aerodromes support Yukon communities:

  • With access to emergency health care through support of Air MEDEVAC operations.
  • By facilitating RCMP, justice and aerial firefighting activities (as a hub to support emergency, disaster and relief efforts).
  • By providing a base for aircraft operations in remote areas for industry.

Off-runway landing and taking off

If conducting landings and take-offs when not on the prepared surface at uncontrolled aerodromes with a Community Aerodrome Radio Station, advise the radio station operator your intentions.

Fixed-wing aircraft operators who choose to land off runway at Yukon Government operated aerodromes do so at their own risk.

Off runway take-off and landing may be reported to Transport Canada for investigation and possible enforcement action.
