Takhini River Bridge Rehabilitation Work

Drivers must adhere to flag person instructions, obey warning signs, and respect speed restriction of 30 km/h.

• Original construction in 1956
• Bridge type: Pony Truss
• Bridge length: 89.7 m

• Erosion control

• 1 week in July

Work Completed During 2009

• Localized surface repair and localized structural repair of the concrete substructure
  • Abutments front walls, back walls, and wingwalls
  • Top portion of the piers (Top 2 meters)
• Localized surface repair and localized structural repair of the concrete deck
• Concrete build-up at bearing shelves of both piers and abutments
• Application of a surface coating to the concrete substructure
• Modification of the bearings for seismic loading
• Installation of steel bearing covers in order to protect the bearings
• Sealing of vertical cracks at the abutments
• Cleaning and partial painting of portion of the structural steel

Objectives Achieved

The work completed

• provides a smoother ride on the deck,
• extendes the lifespan of the bridge, and
• increases travellers safety in case of an earthquake.
