North Canol Road Upgrade Project

We are in the design and preliminary environmental assessment phase of the project and are soliciting input to identify potential environmental & socio-economic impacts to include in our design and regulatory applications.

Objective
To upgrade the North Canol Road starting at km 230 (east of the Pelly River) and ending at km 444 (near the border with the Northwest Territories).

Main Project Activities
• Widening the road from one lane to two lanes with a gravel surface and a maximum design speed of 80 km/hr.
• Improving the highway maintenance camp at Twin Creeks to support year round road operation.
• Developing new gravel pits and borrow areas to provide road building materials.
• Changing the location of the road to avoid rivers and other areas with difficult terrain.
The most significant re-alignment is planned for the road section between Pelly River and Tenas Creek.

Timeline
The construction is estimated to take 5-7 years to complete, but no start date has been determined yet.
