George Black (Dawson City) Ferry

The George Black Ferry’s final sailing of the season will be on October 29 at 11pm.


Residents of West Dawson and Sunnydale - please begin preparations for the upcoming closure of the ferry.


This date is subject to change if there is a change in weather conditions or water levels. If the date does change, we will endeavor to provide 48 hours’ notice to residents.

How to use the ferry

The ferry operates:

24 hours per day until mid-September

12 hours a day from mid-September to mid-October.


The average ferry crossing is six to seven minutes with variations between morning and night traffic flow.


RVs and other motor vehicles can also cross on the ferry, though they may have a wait a bit longer, depending on demand.


The ferry typically ceases operation the first week of October, depending on ice and weather conditions. For historical operational data about the George Black Ferry, please refer to George Black Ferry Stats.

Ross River (Pelly Barge) Ferry

How to use the ferry

The Pelly Barge ceased operations for the summer season on October 12, 2017.

The ferry operates:
8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (with an hour-long break between noon and 1:00 PM), 7 days a week

It usually ceases operations in mid-to-late October, depending on ice and weather conditions.
