Yukon is not a member of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA).
A Fuel Permit is issued to vehicles entering the Yukon without a valid Yukon Fuel Bond. The permit amount is detemined by the distance traveled in the Yukon multiplied by 4 cents per km. Outside carriers normally purchase a return fuel permit. Yukon based carriers, with a Yukon address need only purchase a fuel permit when entering the Yukon. When issuing a fuel permit, attach a fuel rebate application form.
This permit is not issued to vehicles using propane. Operators of commercial vehicles from the towns of Cassiar, BC; Atlin, BC; and Skagway, Alaska, as well as to or from points in the Yukon are exempt. If they enter from other points in BC, Alaska or the NWT, they purchase a single trip permit.
Commercial companies may apply or may already have a Yukon fuel bond through the Department of Finance. Fuel bonds expire on March 31st each year. All trucking companies with a bond are issued annual fuel permits and fuel stickers, at no charge, for each company truck hauling in the Yukon. Company fuel bond numbers are on file at each Weigh Station.
Trucks may display New Year decals anytime after March 1; however, they must be applied by April 1. The Department of Finance will provide the Weigh Stations with a list of companies to whom they have mailed fuel emblems. These companies are NOT to be issued fuel emblems from the Weigh Station for the period of March 1 to April 1.
The Department of Finance will also provide the Weigh Stations with a list of companies to who Fuel Emblems MAY be issued to for the period of March 1, to April 1.
